FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 1, 2021
MIAMI – April 1, 2021 – The NAACP – Highlands County, FL, Chapter #5087, is hosting a virtual Town Hall with U.S. Senate candidate (FL) Allen Ellison on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 6:30pm EST.
The virtual discussion hosted by Attorney-at-Law, Daniel Paige, will discuss voter access and Florida’s House Bill-1 (HB1).
Allen Ellison opposes recent Republican-led initiatives to restrict voting to gain an electoral advantage. These measures disproportionately discriminate and affect those who overwhelmingly vote Democrat. Ellison stands in agreement with the Supreme Court of the United States “Because the right to vote ‘is of the essence of a democratic society, and any restrictions on that right strike at the heart of a representative government,’ voting is a ‘fundamental’ right.”
Ellison firmly disapproves of Florida’s HB1 as unconstitutional and unlawful as it will severely impact communities of color most impacted by injustices. Ellison is running for office as the leader who will protect these constitutional rights.
