ALLEN ELLISON SPEAKS OUT IN WAKE OF GEORGE FLOYD’S TRIAL VERDICT
Today former Minnesota police officer, Derek Chauvin, was found guilty of murder for
killing George Floyd, an unarmed Black man. Chauvin’s bail was revoked and he now
awaits sentencing in 8 weeks.
Allen Ellison wants to praise Judge Peter Cahill and the prosecution team for their
professionalism, as well as the jury for their integrity and unanimous conviction. Today’s
verdict brings a sliver of hope and promise to so many marginalized voices seeking justice
against police brutality. George Floyd’s life mattered, and holding police officers
accountable for murdering unarmed civilians illustrates this.
It is imperative that we enact The Justice in Policing Act also known as the George Floyd
Bill presented by Democrats in the House of Congress. In a nation with roots in justice and
equality, no individual is above the law, including police officers entrusted to uphold the
Constitution of the United States.
According to Allen,“I hope this verdict brings a sense of solace to George Floyd’s family. I
understand this verdict cannot undo what Derek Chauvin has done, but I and so many
Americans, are here with you. George’s untimely death has become a major catalyst to
reform policing across our nation. We must endeavor to continue leaning on justice because
when we lean enough, we can see it bend in our favor.”
