Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Allen Ellison issued this statement after the apparent suicide attack in Afghanistan that killed 12 U.S. military service members and scores of Afghan civilians:
“I was saddened to hear about the horrific attack in Afghanistan that has killed 12 U.S. service members, injured 15 others and scores of civilians. These brave Americans were protecting their fellow citizens and Afghan allies in duty to our country. We must never forget their sacrifice. Their sacrifice and willingness to bravely stand will be the legacy imprinted on us forever. I pray for our remaining troops to remain safe as they help with the evacuation by the deadline.
“I also grieve for our Afghan allies and other civilians who died in the bombing. Since the end of July, the U.S. has evacuated more than 100,000 people. We must be stronger than ever and redouble our efforts to help people most at risk. Let us come together during this time and remain vigilant in this mission. May God bless our troops, our allies and may God bless the United States of America.
